Johnnie Peay "J.P." Barnard age 89 of Tazewell was born March 19, 1926 and passed away March 26, 2015 at Halls Hospice Center after a brief illness. He was a longtime farmer in Little Sycamore Community. He was saved at an early age and for the last 64 years, he served in the New Salem Missionary Baptist Church as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and song leader. Johnnie Peay "J.P." Barnard age 89 of Tazewell was born March 19, 1926 and passed away March 26, 2015 at Halls Hospice Center after a brief illness. He was a longtime farmer in Little Sycamore Community. He was saved at an early age and for the last 64 years, he served in the New Salem Missionary Baptist Church as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and song leader. He was the welcoming committee to the community; always inviting new residents to church. He served on the Claiborne County School Board and served his country with honor and distinction during and in the aftermath of WWII to be honorably discharged in 1946. He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Lillie Pearson Barnard; brothers, Ernest (Margaret), Luther (Bobbie), Estle (Ula Mae) and Lewis Barnard: sisters Loeda (Dillon) Shockley and Cloda (Mack) Lewis and brother-in-law, Hunter Murray.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years: Fay Walker Barnard

Several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 P.M. Saturday March 28, 2015 at Coffey Funeral Home in Tazewell. Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday March 29, 2015 at New Salem Baptist Church. Burial in the Fugate-Walker Cemetery with Military Honors.
